Even though wildly successful people all share certain traits, they’re not super-human traits. You can identify and develop these traits if you truly want to succeed. Yes, with hard work and determination, you can become one of the super successful!

In your journey to achieve your goals, you’ll invariably have to deal with challenges, and even setbacks, from time to time. Every successful person faces some hardship along the way. However, it’s important to remember that those with the drive to succeed will stop at nothing until they achieve their success.

Here are the top five super success traits, along with tips to help you acquire them:

1.  Strong beliefs in yourself and what you’re doing. Put your whole heart into your endeavors and truly believe that you can succeed in what you set out to accomplish. If you run into a snag in the road, find something positive you can learn from the situation and use that to keep moving forward. If necessary, develop a new plan to overcome the challenge.

-Think positively about yourself in all aspects of your life. In order to avoid being too critical, keep in mind that no one is perfect and accept that you’ll make mistakes just like any other human. As valuable learning experiences, mistakes can actually benefit you.

2.  Being organized and having clear plans. Successful people are organized. They know what they want and how they’re going to get there. They develop clear goals with specific action steps to achieve them. Plus, they know where they are on that road to success at all times.

-You can develop this skill by starting with your general organizational skills. Start small by organizing your desk space. Then organize your notes. Move onto planning out your success by setting clear goals.

-What do you want? How are you going to get there? Make a detailed plan of achievable action steps that will take you all the way through accomplishing your goal. Then follow your plan. It’s your map to success.

3.  Perseverance. Sometimes the difference between success and failure is pure perseverance. There will be times when you’re faced with difficult challenges. You may even feel like giving up. However, it’s important to find the strength within you to pull yourself through, even in these tough times.

-In order to develop perseverance, reflect on how you normally handle conflicts in life. Do you give up easily when faced with a challenge? Think of those times you gave up. What could you have done differently to encourage yourself to keep going?

-After reflecting on your normal mode of operation, start changing your mindset about challenges. Instead of bemoaning the challenge, seek a way to overcome it so you can complete your task. Do this each day, with even small challenges, and soon you’ll find yourself persevering through larger challenges with ease.

5.  The drive to keep learning and achieving. Super successful people realize that they’re always students. They may be a master of a certain subject, but there’s always something new they can develop or learn. Once they achieve one goal, then they use their current knowledge to help them learn something else that brings them even more success.

-It’s okay to take a break to enjoy your success once you’ve achieved a goal, but always ask yourself what’s next. There’s always a way that you can expand your success.

6.  No fear of failure. The super successful don’t waste their time worrying about failure. They know that everyone must take certain risks if they’re going to achieve success and that some ideas might not work out. You only fail if you give up or decide not to try at all. If you’re still trying, then you haven’t failed!

-Just as with the other traits, overcoming a fear of failure can be accomplished by starting small. Start out by taking some minor risks. See how most of them work out fine when you expect the best and seek solutions to the challenges? The more ideas you try, the more successes you’ll have, and you’ll feel confident about forging ahead without fear.

To attain the life of the super successful, the most important thing to remember is to always give your all. Adopt these success traits as your own, and soon you’ll find that nothing can stop you from achieving your goals!

What's For Dinner?

Nearly everyone will have trouble sleeping from time to time. You may have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Either way, these challenges can affect your life in many negative ways. The good news is that there are simple strategies you can use to get a better night’s sleep.

Try these strategies to chase away your insomnia and wake up refreshed:

1.  Keep the lights off. Even small lights can affect your body’s natural ability to determine night from day. Turn off all the lights when it’s time for bed, including nightlights, bathroom lights, and computers. Sometimes even the neon numbers from your alarm clock can be bothersome.

2.  Wind down at night. Avoid trying to transition straight from an activity to sleep time. This can cause your mind to race continuously. Approximately 30 minutes before you go to bed, do something calming in order to ease your mind. Many people find activities such as praying, meditating, reading, or listening to relaxing music to be the perfect sleep inducer.

3.  Keep yourself on a schedule. It’s always a good idea to have your life on a general schedule. It works well for babies, toddlers, and for you too! Schedules allow you to set up natural rhythms in your body and mind.

-Sleeping for different lengths of time can confuse your body. If you have trouble sleeping one night, get up at the normal time and remain on your normal schedule the next day.

4.  Keep an eye on your diet. Eating a balanced diet gives you a better chance for a good night’s sleep. It’s especially important to pay attention to the things you eat and drink in the few hours before your bedtime.

-It’s best to avoid anything containing sugar, caffeine, alcohol, high fructose corn syrup, or red dyes shortly before you sleep.

-Try drinking chamomile tea before bed. Chamomile is a calming herb.

5.  Exercise during the day. Keeping yourself on a regular exercise routine will actually help you get a quality night’s rest. Even 30 minutes of light exercise can benefit you in many ways.

-Avoid exercising right before you go to bed, because exercise energizes you.

6.  Avoid naps. Naps can be tempting, especially during a lull in the afternoon. However, some people tend to have trouble with their nighttime sleep if they nap during the day. If you feel that you must take a nap, try to make it only 15 to 30 minutes. That should be enough time to give you a little rest before continuing with your day.

7.  Ensure you’re comfortable. Your bed might even be interfering with your sleep. Are you having issues with the quality of your mattress or the type of blankets and pillows you use? If they feel uncomfortable in any way, try changing to a different style.

-What about the positions that you use for sleep? Do you have plenty of room to stretch out and get comfortable?

8.  Check the temperature. Determine the temperature you enjoy sleeping at during the night. It’s usually a few degrees cooler than you’ll keep the house during the day. You may want to experiment with adjusting the temperature.

-Also pay attention to the humidity to keep you from feeling stuffy. During the winter, the heater can dry out the air and a humidifier in your bedroom can help you breathe easier.

A good night’s sleep is critical to your health and enables you to live an active, fulfilling life. Just keep searching for a strategy that works for you. If you continue to have trouble sleeping after trying these tips, keep in mind that you can always talk with a physician about your insomnia.

You know all that loose change sitting at the bottom of your purse or hanging about forgotten at the bottom of your coat pockets? By itself, it probably doesn’t seem like very much – just a few extra cents here and there. But if you were to collect it all and add it together, you might be surprised at how much extra money you suddenly have. It might even be enough to take a friend out to lunch or buy yourself something special. It won’t feel like it cost anything because this money was just sitting there, not included in your budget.

We often treat our loose change like it’s not real money. After all, what difference can a few cents here and there make? So, we often give it to kids or tell the cashier to keep it, or throw it into the change jars some of them keep at the counter. But, just like you saw in the example above, it can add up quickly and pay for some extras that aren’t included in your regular budget.

Now, think about how much change you collect in a month, or over a year. Even a few pennies in change here and there can really add up over several months. If you can find a way to start saving your change, you could always have a reserve set aside for something fun, like a family outing.

Your loose change can be difficult to keep track of because it’s small, yet when you accumulate it, it takes up a lot of room. You can start saving your change by creating a designated place to keep it. For example, some families get a big jar and put their change in there until they have enough to spend on something they want to do.

You’re probably not the only person in your family who’s spending money and carrying loose change in your pockets. Your spouse and your kids have loose change too. You can increase your savings even more by inviting everyone to participate by putting their loose change in your change jar. At the end of every day, everyone can put in the loose change they accumulated during that day. You can watch it grow together and plan what you will do with it when the jar is full.

You can also set aside time each week or each month to roll the coins you already have. That way it won’t seem like such a big job when the jar is full. As well, rolling your coins will help you keep track of how much you’ve actually saved.

In almost no time at all, you will have enough to spend on a fun family outing. Alternatively, you can save for a trip you want to take, or to pay for Christmas presents. If you have a big goal that your family is saving for, you can even tape a picture of it to the front of the jar to remind everyone why you’re saving.

Saving your loose change can be an easy way to save up for something special. Your budget won’t notice, and your pockets will feel a lot lighter.

What You Need:

1 (16.3 oz.) can of refrigerated biscuits
1 egg, lightly beaten
4 tsp sunflower seeds
1 large tomato, sliced
8 lettuce leaves
4 oz. deli ham, sliced thin
8 slices of American cheese

How to Make It:

Allow the oven to preheat to 350 degrees.
Separate the dough into 8 biscuits then separate each biscuit into 2 pieces.
Place the biscuit halves onto a cookie sheet and press it out to 3 1/2 inch circle.
Bake the biscuits for 12 minutes or until nice and brown on top.
Use kitchen scissors and make short cuts around the edges of 8 of the biscuit halves while still warm to form a sunflower.
Use a pastry brush and lightly brush the center of the 8 cut biscuits with the egg.
Sprinkle 1/2 tsp of the sunflower seeds into the middle of each of the prepared biscuits.
Turn the other half of the biscuits upside down.
Place a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, a slice of ham and a slice on cheese onto each of the upturned biscuit halves.
Top with the sunflower top.

Makes 8 sandwiches

If you’re teaching your daughter how to cook this is one of the easiest recipes for her to try. It’s also a lot of fun for them to create a flower sandwich all by themselves. If they prefer they can use of their favorite deli meats instead of the ham.

The teenage years can be hard on both teens and adults. Teens are struggling between childhood and adulthood and finding their true selves. Self confidence can prove to be a major issue as they navigate through this time in their lives.

Just as in other aspects of their life, teens can strengthen their self confidence skills. Some will have tougher situations to overcome, but in the end, everyone can benefit.

Here are some self confidence strategies that you can share with your teen:

1.  Start small. You don’t want to expect too much too soon when it comes to making changes in your teen’s life. To say that they must become self confident overnight can prove to be a nearly impossible task, and it might just make your teen pull away from you emotionally.

-Instead, focus on just one small issue and build from there. They could work on standing up to one friend or finding the courage to speak up more in class.

2.  Work on forgetting the past. Many times a teen will have self confidence issues because of certain past experiences. Work on those issues first and explain that the past doesn’t have to repeat itself. Tell your teen that, in life, you can’t get too hung up on past issues or you’ll be jeopardizing future opportunities.

3.  Remind your teen that they’re not alone. Being a teen can be lonely; sometimes they’re tempted to pull away just because they start to feel uncomfortable talking about their issues.

  • Keep an open dialogue with your teen and avoid judging them when they do open up.
  • Remind them that you’ll always be there, as well as other family members and friends.

4.  Provide encouragement. Teens need lots of encouragement because, as they find themselves, they’ll discover activities that they’re good at in life. Sometimes things work out perfectly for them, and other times they begin to struggle.

  • Be there to provide that extra encouragement when they need to get over a hurdle.

5.  Allow your teen to try something new. You can provide your teen with a great confidence builder by encouraging them to engage in new things. This gives them extra practice when it comes to confidence and it may help them become more grounded and social.

6.  Provide rewards. Use rewards to congratulate your teen when they take a stride toward self confidence. If they take a big step forward, buy them a little something that they’ve been wanting or take them out to dinner at their favorite restaurant.

7.  Provide unconditional love. Unconditional love shows your teen that, even if they make a mistake, you’ll be there for them no matter what.

8.  Be accepting. Be accepting of others and teach your teen to do the same. Your teen will have the confidence to be himself if you have an accepting nature. This will provide a starting point for feeling accepted out in the world away from home.

Remember that being there for your teen is the most important thing. Sometimes they’ll want to be alone and other times they’ll need your help. Either way, they’ll know that you’re always rooting for them.
