5 Benefits of Gratitude
January 27th, 2012

Showing your gratitude can be a great way to spread positive feelings in the world around you. When you think about it, reaching your goals starts with a single positive thought.

How do you feel when someone sincerely expresses his or her gratitude to you for something you did? Doesn’t it make you feel good about yourself? These positive feelings can lift you up, boost your enthusiasm, and motivate you to achieve even more.

Feeling grateful for what you have can produce the same good feelings and sustain your drive toward your goals.

This shows how gratitude can have some seriously positive snowball effects.

Here are some of the benefits of gratitude:

1.  Reaching your goals. When you feel grateful, it tends to be a lasting and selfless feeling. It’s much more than just a momentary burst of positive energy; it has staying power that will provide a great boost for you to reach your goals.

  • When you express your gratitude to others, ensure that you’re open and expressive. People don’t know what you’re thinking; hearing it can make all the difference.

2.  Strengthened relationships. There are many ways you can express your gratitude to your loved ones, including saying, “Thank you,” writing a letter, or giving them a thoughtful gift. When you learn to avoid taking your loved ones for granted, you’ll have a long lasting and loving relationship.

  • Showing gratitude is a two way street. Learn how to effectively express your gratitude and, just as importantly, to receive it as well.

3.  Improved communication. Gratitude can mean better communication all around. By expressing your gratitude to strangers, they’ll be more likely to show an interest in helping you, too.

  • Gratitude is such a powerful entity that it can even help you communicate with your pets! They should be appreciated too.

4.  More effective constructive criticism. No matter how we express constructive criticism, it often makes the recipient defensive or even angry. No one likes a blow to the ego. In this situation, a grateful attitude can take you a long way. You can express criticism quite effectively when you also emphasize what you appreciate about them.

5.  Preserving memories. You can preserve memories in a positive way when you keep a gratitude journal. You’ll be able to enjoy your memories again and again when you read about these happy times in the future.

Show Your Gratitude Every Day

Showing gratitude to others may seem like a selfless act, but it’s something that you also benefit from. When you show your gratitude every day, you change the way you think.

You’ll appreciate your good life when the majority of your thoughts remain positive. Negative thoughts can sometimes be overwhelming, and just because you have them doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. They happen to everyone, but you can strive to keep them to a minimum with the help of a grateful attitude.

One way to show your gratitude every day is to remind yourself of the big picture when a negative thought arises. If a petty argument with your spouse makes you feel angry and heated, take a deep breath and think for a moment. Remember that the argument is not permanent and, instead, feel grateful for the gift of this relationship.

Our days on this earth are numbered so we must cherish the time that we do have and enjoy the benefits of living each day as if it were our last.

Do You Have a Prosperity Mindset?
January 27th, 2012

If you don’t already have a prosperity mindset, it might be a hard thing to imagine. There are certain ways you can chase your dreams while keeping wealth and prosperity in mind at the same time.

A prosperity mindset encourages you to take action each day to improve your life on numerous levels, such as health, wealth, love or anything else you deem important.

Study The Actions Of Successful People

Perhaps this is the most important suggestion. Learn by example. Find someone successful whom you admire and do what they do. These individuals serve as proof that your dreams can come true.

  • Find someone who has had the same kind of success that you desire.
  • Study what they’ve done right as well as their mistakes.

It’s always easier when we have an example to follow. Find a way to ask successful people questions. You might be surprised to know that successful people love to inspire others to find success as well. They know that there’s plenty of success to go around. That’s the prosperity mindset in action!

It’s All About Being Positive

If you believe in yourself, you can achieve your dreams. The moment you think you can’t do something, you can’t. You know that negative feelings arise from time to time and that’s okay. However, you need to keep a positive image of the big picture in your mind at all times.

  • Picture yourself reaching your goals and imagine how it feels.
  • Surround yourself with positive people.
  • Write prosperity affirmations.
  • Be an open person.

When you open up to new opportunities, you open up to prosperity. Stay motivated and don’t be afraid of change.

Setting Goals And Action Plans

You can dream all day about where you’d like your life to go, but without a goal or an action plan nothing will happen. Take time to think about the big picture and then draw in the lines of how you’re going to get there.

  • Break down your goals into smaller steps.
  • Set manageable and achievable goals.
  • Stick to your plan whenever possible.

Don’t Give Up

You have to have the dedicated motivation and drive to tell yourself that you’ll stop at nothing before you reach success. When you talk to or study the actions of someone who is successful, they’ll likely tell you tales of their many failures. There were probably times when they felt like giving up, but they were able to push through defeat.

  • Realize that everyone feels like giving up, but we can’t give in to these feelings.
  • Keep the image of your goal in your mind.
  • Make changes if you need to, but continue taking action toward your goal.

Get A Life Coach

People with prosperity mindsets are all different. They have different approaches to getting what they want and they have different definitions of what prosperity is for them.

There are certain things they do have in common though. They all have a hungry enthusiasm for life and a positive attitude that they’ll continue to use on the journey forward.

If you feel that you lack any of the core beliefs and are still unsure about whether or not you can adopt a prosperity mindset, you could always look into getting advice from a life coach. They’ll be able to break down your problems and concerns and tailor a plan that will work for you personally.

When you implement these strategies, you’ll gain a renewed prosperity mindset that will help you on your life journey.

Ladies – Do You Really Have Time to Exercise?
January 26th, 2012

Women’s fitness is often overlooked and undervalued today.  Most women don’t feel as if they have the time to commit to fitness in their daily lives.  They often want to have it all – a successful career, happy family, clean home, and many friends.  OK, we all know that it’s fairly impossible unless you have unlimited financial resources and can hire a housekeeper, a cook and your boss lets you work only when the kids are in school.

Women who work outside the home often feel the guilt of taking time for a fitness program the most.  They stress over the issues of 30 minutes for themselves vs. helping the kids with homework or leaving them at daycare for 45 more minutes each day.

BUT, everyone and everything benefits when mom is in shape, has more energy and is healthy.  And there are ways to involve the children, the spouse and even your boss to work a fitness program into your day.

Fitness programs for women become even more important as we age.  Exercise will help women to stand taller, be stronger, trimmer, decrease cholesterol and body fat content, regulate periods, decrease risk of stroke, cancer and heart attacks as well as improve their overall sense of well-being.

Before undertaking any fitness program, no matter how benign, you should consult with your primary care provider to be sure that your plans do not interfere with any current medical conditions, medications and your plans match your current level of conditioning.

There are a huge number of women’s fitness programs that can include a fitness walking program, yoga, aerobics, and even weight lifting.  Each of these have their benefits and problems.  However, if you value your health and wellness then you will be able to find a solution to the problems.

A women’s walking program, for instance, is simple, cost effective, physically challenging when increasing intensity and walk on hills, and can be done with other moms and the kids in strollers.  Pushing a stroller for 30 minutes a day up hills is physically taxing and definitely considered exercise.  On bad weather days you can also walk through most malls in America for the hour before the stores actually open.  Be careful not to treat yourself to that hot pretzel when the stand opens though, since you might be defeating your intended purpose of weight loss.

Another fitness program of yoga and aerobics have other pro’s that make them popular exercises for women.  They can be done in the privacy of your own home, while the kids are asleep, using DVDs.  You can schedule the time in your day that is most convenient for you; using DVDs you are not bound to the schedule of a yoga class  – although most gyms also offer classes and have childcare available.  Gyms offer motivation from other women and a time that can be set-aside just for you.  Don’t be afraid to ask your friend to join the gym or workout in your home with you.  It might be just the motivation she was waiting for!

A fitness program should also include weight lifting.  Although many women are afraid of ‘bulking up’ the potential for this is slim since they don’t normally have enough testosterone to build that kind of muscle.  Weight lifting can help to avoid osteoporosis or advanced bone loss leading to fractures.  The risk of osteoporosis decreases with weight bearing exercises such as running and weight lifting but not swimming or rowing.

Including weight lifting in your program will help you to build lean muscle, gain strength, trim down and become more toned. You should use the amount of weight that is comfortable doing 10 repetitions for 3 sets each.

Women who are fit have learned to put their health first recognizing that with better health they are also better able to work, advance their careers, take care of their children and the dozen or so other things they do each day.

Women’s programs are becoming more popular across the country as fitness experts are realizing that most women desire to get in to the gym, workout and get out without the added stress of working out in front of the opposite sex.  Where some gyms continue to be arenas that encourage men and women to socialize more only women’s fitness programs are developing to answer the needs of the on-the-go fast paced women who has time only to work out and get out.

Recipe Collection – Nutty Cream Cheese Carrot Cake
January 26th, 2012

What You Need:

cake:
2 cups all-purpose Flour
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2/3 cup butter, room temperature
1 cup regular table (granulated) sugar
3 large eggs
2/3 cup milk
3 medium size carrots, grated
1/2 cup chopped Walnuts

cream cheese frosting:
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
4 oz pkg cream cheese, room temperature
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cup confectioners sugar

dressed up topping:
1/4 cup finely chopped Walnuts
2 Tbsp light brown sugar (packed)

How to Make It:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare a 9 inch round cake pan first with a light coating of grease then sprinkle in flour, coat evenly, then tap pan so excess flour falls out; set aside.
In a bowl, stir together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, put the butter and sugar and cream together at a medium speed until light and fluffy, then with mixer running, add one of the eggs, mixing until combined, then add another egg, mixing to combine, then add the final egg, mixing to combine.
Turn the mixer down to the low speed, then slowly start adding the dry ingredients in small batches, alternating in between each batch by adding some of the milk. Do this in about 3 steps – flour, milk, flour, milk, flour, milk, mixing until combined well.
Remove bowl from mixer and stir in the grated carrots and chopped walnuts until combined well; then pour this batter into your prepared cake pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched with your finger or when a toothpick or skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean; remove and place cake pan on a cooling rack for 10 minutes.
Turn cake upside down to release it from the cake pan and continue to cool on the rack until completely cold.

Make cream cheese frosting: With an electric mixer on medium speed, beat together butter and cream cheese until very smooth. With mixer running, add vanilla extract and then confectioners sugar and continue beating until very smooth and fluffy.

Make dressed up topping: In a bowl, mix together walnuts and brown sugar with a whisk or fork.

To assemble; place cake on cake plate and spread frosting on top and up the sides, then sprinkle with the dressed up topping all over or just on the top.

Moving Your Financial Life Forward: Four Tips for Success
January 26th, 2012

Does financial freedom seem like an unreachable goal for you? For some, the only goal in sight is getting that next paycheck so you can pay the bills before services get disconnected.

Even if your current situation seems dire, there are things you can do to achieve financial success. Options that can improve your financial situation are all around you.

When you want to move your financial life forward, the first step is deciding on a worthwhile goal. What do you want to see happen? When? As soon as you’ve made that determination, you can begin marching toward your success in a step-by-step fashion. A worthwhile goal ensures you know where you’re going before you set out on your journey.

Long-Term and Short-Term Goals Are Both Critical

You might have a short-term goal to pay off a credit card and a long-term goal to pay off your mortgage. Those are both reachable, but one will take longer than the other. Makes sense, right?

Well, that’s why it’s so important to set a realistic timeframe for your goals! Stay encouraged by tracking your progress along your planned timeline. When you see a goal getting closer to achievement, you’ll become more excited and motivated to keep moving forward.

If you only set long-term goals, the payoff is too far away to provide any real motivation. These goals take a while to achieve and the lack of immediate progress may make you want to quit without shorter-term goals to look forward to.

The goal is to set long-term goals and couple them with short-term goals that excite you. Or, break your long-term objectives into short-term milestones that provide encouraging feedback on your progress. That way, you remain interested in pursuing your financial success.

You Can Get There From Here!

Too many people get discouraged and stop working for their goals. Don’t let this happen to you! Avoid allowing yourself to end up financially stuck and struggling because you let setbacks derail your train to financial success and prosperity.

Instead of giving up on your success and stopping yourself from living the good life you deserve, use these strategies to move forward:

  1. Reap your rewards along the way. Set realistic goals and reward yourself when you meet them. Divide your large goals into small steps and celebrate completing each step.
  2. Be flexible. Be willing to move your completion dates if you see they’re too soon. If you experience a setback, learn from it, adjust your goal’s completion date, and continue moving forward.
  3. Focus. Stay focused on what matters to you instead of getting sidetracked. Remember the reasons why your success is important to you when the going gets rough.
  4. Make the work toward your dreams more enjoyable. Moving forward doesn’t have to be all tedious work. Include goals in your life for things you enjoy, too.
  • Turn your hobby or other enjoyable activities into a profitable venture.
  • Ask yourself how you can make tasks you dread more fun.
  • Include a friend.
  • Make it a game with yourself.
  • Whatever you do, keep a spirit of playfulness in your work and success is sure to follow!

Your hopes and dreams are what fuel your happiness. You deserve a life that’s filled with rich experiences, meaningful relationships and inner peace. With a positive mindset and a determination to succeed, you can achieve all of this and more. Financial independence and the dream life you seek are within your reach.

When you reach your goals – even the small ones – you set yourself apart from most people, who dream big dreams but stay on the sidelines of life.

Get in the game!

Brainstorm the short-term and long-term financial objectives that matter to you. Pick the most important ones, sketch out a plan, and take the first steps toward your financial success today.

5 Ways to Turn Around Self-Doubt
January 25th, 2012

Do you struggle with self-doubt? Perhaps you often wonder if you’ve made the right decision or have only a faint hope that your next job interview, project, or even date will turn out well. The most unfortunate thing about self-doubt is that your fears often become self-fulfilling prophecies.

On the other hand, when you take action to become more confident in yourself, more things in your life automatically turn out better as well. With more self-confidence, your decision-making skills are strengthened, others are drawn to you in social situations, you produce higher quality work, and you’re more able to create the life you desire.

Try these strategies to silence the inner critic inside of you and regain your confidence:

1.  Stop and think. Reflect on why you’re experiencing feelings of doubt. Think about the events that caused you to feel insecure. Being faced with a challenge that you don’t feel you’re capable of successfully completing is a major cause for self-doubt.

  • Do you have a habit of putting yourself down? You may be subconsciously repeating negative thoughts that prevent you from moving forward. Such thoughts as “I can’t do this” and “I’m not good enough” become reasons to opt out of new experiences that could bring you many benefits.
  • The next time you have a self-doubting thought, take a few moments to think about why you believe this is true. If insecurities are getting the better of you because of past failures, you must resolve to live in the moment. Today is a new day!
  • Replace your negative self-talk with positive thoughts about how you can do it and you are good enough. Make the switch each and every time you have a self-doubting thought. Soon you’ll automatically be singing your praises instead of your doubts.

2.  Practice self-understanding. Often, when you feel insecure about your abilities, you start berating yourself. Beating yourself up over something you feel you did wrong only leads to a cycle of frustration and procrastination. Realize that making mistakes doesn’t make you a bad or incompetent person – it simply makes you human.

  • Allow yourself to accept that while you’re not perfect, you’re certainly someone who always strives to do the very best job you can. Embrace the idea that every challenge in life is an opportunity for you to learn something new and grow as a person.

3.  Make a list. Take a blank sheet of paper and make two columns. On the left side, write down all of those doubtful thoughts you’re having about yourself right now. On the right side, list all of the positive facts that dispute your doubts.

  • For example, suppose you’ve been assigned a new task at work that you’ve never done before, and you immediately become negative because you feel your skills aren’t adequate. On the left side of the list write “I can’t do this because I don’t have the skills.” On the right side of the page write “I was given this task because I’m a quick learner who always gets the job done.”
  • You’ll find that you have a lot more positive facts listed than doubts. If your positive list is short, keep searching through your talents and good qualities (yes – they are there) until your positive list outweighs your negative one.

4.  Write a letter. Write a letter to yourself that talks about your positive traits and how you’ve overcome obstacles in the past. If you can recall a specific time when you triumphed over self-doubt and accomplished something that makes you feel proud, tell this to yourself in the form of a story.

  • The act of writing the letter will release all of those pent up insecurities that are spinning around inside of your mind. By the end of the letter, you should be feeling a lot better. Keep the letter in a brightly colored folder, so you can refer back to it when needed.

5.  Make an appreciation folder. Keep track of those kind words of appreciation you receive from others. When you’re experiencing self-doubt, it’s easy to forget about all of those wonderful comments you’ve received for doing things that made other people’s lives better in some way. Collect all of the emails, notes and cards that say kind and loving things about you.

  • When you feel the voice of your inner critic welling up inside of you, simply take out your appreciation folder and read those wonderful thoughts.

Self-doubt can rob you of the opportunity to reach new heights of success in life. While it’s very common to doubt yourself once in a while, you want to be able to easily let go of your inner critic when it pops up. Practicing the steps above will enable you to push through your self-doubt, boost your confidence, and clear the way for positive new experiences.
